Building a Career - High School Dual Enrollment Programfacebook

High School Students…..Do you want to try out a career in construction and earn credits towards advanced placement in the Apprenticeship Program…all during your junior and senior years of high school??

Through a partnership with Santa Fe College, School Board of Alachua County, and the Builders Association of North Central Florida, high school juniors and seniors now have the opportunity to dual enroll, part-time or full-time, at SFC in the School of Construction for technical education in heating and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. This exciting new program enrolled its first students in the Fall 2006 Semester.

Part-time students attend their home high school in the mornings, transferring to Santa Fe’s main campus for classes from 1:30 to 3:30 pm each day.  Classes are held at Santa Fe’s main campus.

To qualify, students must apply to the program by completing either the full-time or part-time dual enrollment application to Santa Fe College’s School of Construction. In addition to having an expressed interest in construction or a related career (such as engineering, architecture or construction management), applicants must have a 2.0 GPA minimum and have either passed the FCAT or have been close to passing level. To discuss individual qualifications, contact Jane Parkin, whose contact information is below.

Students who complete two years in the dual enrollment program are awarded
advanced placement into the second year of the Apprenticeship Program.
