BANCF believes strongly in educating our future workforce and, for many years, has presented scholarships annually to students in Building Construction at Santa Fe College and the University of Florida totaling over $100,000. Scholarships are available for students who want to pursue a career in construction. Criteria for scholarships vary according to the specific scholarship and can include scholastic achievement, special talent, financial need, and a commitment to pursue a degree in construction or related field.
Through the Santa Fe College Foundation, Inc., BANCF has established four scholarship funds in memory of BANCF Members who took great interest in making sure opportunities existed to study in the construction field. They are the A.W. Fletcher Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Gene Gerber Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Charles R. Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund, and the Ron Carpenter Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Scholarships will be available to graduating seniors from Alachua, Bradford, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, and Taylor counties, and any 2nd year student in the Building Construction Program at SF who plans to pursue a degree in building construction at Santa Fe College. The amount of each scholarship will vary. The application process for Fall Scholarships is now open. Click here for more information.
The Building Construction program at Santa Fe College provides construction management training for entry-level practitioners in residential and light commercial construction. Building construction courses are offered for different types of students. The A.S. in Building Construction Technology gives graduates technical skills required in the industry and blends business management training for light construction in a two-year degree program. The A.A. degree with construction emphasis is designed to prepare the graduate to transfer to a four-year university and to pursue a bachelor’s degree in building construction.
BANCF recently established a new scholarship fund for students pursuing a degree at the Rinker School of Construction Management at the University of Florida. It is the Evan Thomas Bolton Memorial Scholarship Fund, in memory of Evan Bolton, son of two BANCF Members, both graduates from UF who have continued to help students in the program. For more information on this scholarship fund, contact BANCF at Gina@bancf.com.
The M.E. Rinker Sr. School of Construction Management at the University of Florida prepares students with the professional capabilities to plan, direct, and coordinate activities involved with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems. Graduates are typically employed by general contractors, developers, home builders, heavy construction industry (oil, petrochemical, paper), and service industries.
The North Central Florida area is fortunate to have two first-class colleges providing career in construction opportunities, Santa Fe College and the University of Florida. Educating and training a new generation is critical for a healthy building industry and economy in our community.
